The 4HWW, as described in this social group that I started, changed my entire life. I want to hear about how the 4HWW concept has been applied in other peoples lives. I would love to hear your discussions = )
My old man worked for himself - and it was pretty clear from the get go (or at least two years into my first and only full time job) that nothing else would do for me either. There was only one problem. Generally speaking - I sucked at being in business. With a comfortable middle class upbringing - I never really felt motivated enough by money alone. I did love 'innovating' however. I was a programmer by trade and loved to have people using software. Althought this might sound strange - it was my way of giving back. Having said that. I was giving loads but paying the price by not being business focussed enough. I had started a marginally succesfful business that offered text messaging services over the web. Admin and sales always got me down though. I was basically too lazy to concentrate on either. Before long, the tax man came knocking and I lurched from one demand to the next. Some of that middle-class complacency was slowly being beaten out of me. I was beging to see why money was worth working for. I didn't want to be using it to pay tax bills, but spending time on the things that I thought most important. Despite being a geek, I'm also a people person and a life spent in front of a monitor was not what I really wanted to achieve on my death bed.
I had already started to learn about the 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' stuff. The concept of 'passive' (ha) income and all that lark. I bought the board game (which I would _highly_ recommend) and got stuck into the books. It all made a lot of sense. I started attending a local 'investors' forum and began to get stuck into the early stages of propery investment.
Something didn't quiet gell however. I noticed that while there were plenty of people who did very well out of property investment (especially in Ireland) they normally had some 'inside track'. They may have had a natural interest in property or a background in civil engineering. There was something that gave them the edge. I was already starting to think about whether I could 'automate' some of my income using my IT skills. That was effectively what I had been attempting with my previous business but my goal wasn't well enough defined for me.
I finally picked up the four hour work week and it chimed perfectly with everything I had started to come to realise. I just wish I had picked it up earlier. I have to admit, the title had put me off a little. It didn't seem all that realistic. Having read it now - I'm a convert however. It is clear and makes sense. I can see how all the dots join up. I personally focus on recurring income and have partered with an advertising copywriter to create a listing of voiceover talent on www.piehole.ie. We've launched in the UK now and are keen to find partners in other countries to expand elsewhere. This year, for the first time, we are taking two months off to go live in South Africa and I can safely credit the 4HWW with getting us there.
Tim Ferriss' book was the straw that broke the camel's back for me and inspired me to launch my own website and break out of the corporate world. If anyone is interested in reading some more inspirational reads, check them out here at FiredUpNetwork.com. I hope you find my site useful in your quest! I have uploaded hundreds and hundreds of informational items that I believe you will find useful.
4HWW has helped me focus on what is important in my life. By working on the dreamline, I was able to determine what was most important. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is serious about changing their life.
